Introduction:
Nasya is defined as-“Oushadham oushadha siddha sneham va nasikayaam deeyate inti nasyam”
It means, procedure where the medicated drugs or oils are administrated through the nostrils. The
learned physician should administer nasya karma in disease of head as nose being considered as
the gate way of head and as such drug administered by this route pervades the head and thus
destroys the diseases of the head and neck and cures the diseases of respective region.
Types:
Depending upon the pharmacological actions of drug used in nasya karma Acharyas of Ayurveda
have mentioned different varieties of nasya karma. There are many types of Nasya using
powders, juice extracts, decoctions, herbal fumes etc. used for different therapeutic purposes.
Benefits:
When Nasya karma is done adequately the following benefits can be gained
Prevention of eye disease
Prevention of ear disease
Prevention of nasal disease
Healthy hair
Provides strength to scalp
